Tuesday, 01 January 2008 00:00

In the spirit of the holidays, Dwyane launched the Wade’s World Foundation’s "3" under the Tree program in Miami....here is a recap of what took place:

Friday, December 20th: Dwyane surprised over 75 kids from the Barnyard Community Center with a night at the movies...the kids had a great time watching “The Perfect Holiday” at the AMC Theater in Cocowalk and were treated to food and Converse gift bags. The highlight of the night was an unexpected check presentation to the center in the amount of $25,000 to help with the refurbishment of the facility. Opened in 1983, the Barnyard Community Center is a safe, supervised place for the children of the Village West neighborhood in Coconut Grove and provides an alternative to the streets and the harsh realities of an area still plagued by poverty and unemployment.

Sunday, December 23rd: The day started with Dwyane visiting three families in the Overtown community who lost everything during a gas explosion a few months ago. The families were surprised to see Dwyane personally deliver basic necessities including bags of clothes, towels, bed sheets, gift cards, etc. The day continued with the 3rd Annual Wade’s World at Boomers. Dwyane was joined by Daequan Cook and Dorell Wright – along with 300 kids from various churches and organizations for over four hours of food and lots of games....all three guys competed with their teams in bowling, laser tag, race cars and basketball.

Dwyane’s mother, Jolinda, and sister Tragil, continued the “3” under the tree program in Robbins, IL on Christmas eve by selecting 3 families to support for the holiday season.

Dwyane Wade created Wade’s World Foundation to provide support to various educational, health and family service programs. In addition to these events, Wade and his family have been dedicated to giving back to the South Florida and Chicago-area communities through a variety of community outreach programs and donations since 2003.
